Honey Sesame Tofu

Perfect as a meal or a happy hour snack, the Honey Sesame Tofu is a delightfully crispy and savoury vegetarian dish. The burst of flavorcomes from the sauce –a symphony of honey, sesame oil, soy sauce, onions and chilies –which pairs nicely with the soft, subtle taste of tofu. Picture this –A bright savory crepe stuffed full of sweet juicy prawns, crunchy beansprouts and lettuce, topped with mint and coriander for that refreshing touch. Be prepared for a bit of mess because those fillings might fall out on your table!

Tauhu Goreng

“Don’t judge a dish by its cover” is an idiom that describes the Tauhu Goreng. For a splash of colour and crunch, serve over a bed of cucumber and beansprouts!

Grandma's Guide to Traditional Chinese Drinks

Grandma is always right when it comes to traditional drinks to heal the body. Here are some famaliar. drinks that your mom might have made for you when you are young. It's the perfect time to learn these drink recipes and pass them down to future generations.

Water Chestnut Drink

A super refreshing, clean and sweet chestnut drink. Under 45 mins, you roughly smash up a bunch of water chestnuts, and let it all simmer in large pot of water. Some drink it just like that. Others like a touch of sweetness, and so melt in some crystal rock sugar for that. You can have it warm or chilled. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, it’s believed to reduce body heat, relieve indigestion, and help you breathe easily by clearing phlegm.

Barley Water

Probably one of the most inexpensive thirst-quenchers around. Chewy white Barley pearls simmered in water is a simple and effective all-day drink. Gently boil for under 20 mins to let the nutty grains infuse the boiling water with a classic clean sweetness that’s easy to drink. Still too plain? Drop in naturally sweet rock sugar and candied winter melon, the choice sugar for a cool jug of barley water. Traditional Chinese Medicine practitioners warn against over boiling though, or letting the barley spilt. They say if that happens, the drink loses its “cooling” properties. So keep your eye on the pot!

Soothingly Warm Luo Han Guo Tea

A warming sweet fruit drink famously used to calm irritated throats and other respiratory annoyances. It’s easy to make too, in 10 mins, you crack and break the monk fruit drink into smaller pieces, then boil it with a comforting blend of honey dates, apricot kernels (north and south almond) and sweet dried figs. Too sweet for your liking? Use less monk fruit, for its 200 times sweeter than sugar.

Green Bean Water

Green Bean Water is literally, the coolest thing on the block. Boiled under medium heat, it’s incredibly light, mood lifting, and used as an everyday tonic in Traditional Chinese Medicine. Fans of the magical brew believe that the make-in-15mins green beans, or mung beans, help clear heat and toxins from the body, improving circulation in the process. Now isn’t that’s so much good for so little effort?
