  • dressing ingredients:

    juice of 1 lemon

  • ¼ cup soy sauce 

  • 1 tbsp fish sauce 

  • 1 tbsp lemongrass (finely chopped)

  • 2 tbsp ginger (roughly chopped)

  • ½ cup peanut butter 

  • 2 garlic cloves

  • 1 red chili pepper 

  • 3 tbsp brown sugar 

  • 1 tbsp sriracha 

  • 2 tbsp sesame oil 

  • ½ cup water

     

  • beef steak ingredients:

    1 beef steak 

  • 2 green papayas (shredded) 

  • 3 carrots (shredded)

  • 2 cucumbers (shredded)

  • a bunch of coriander 

  • 2 red hot chillies (optional) 

  • ¼ cup toasted peanuts

Thai Green Papaya Salad with Beef

Thai salads have their own distinct flavors that set them a world apart from any Western salad. The use of unripe fruits such as mangoes and papayas (which are abundant in Thailand’s tropical climate) give a different taste, texture and meaning to fresh greens, and make for a cooling dish to have on a hot day. In this Thai Green Papaya Salad with Beef, the thinly sliced beef adds a new dimension to the original Thai salad and goes really well with the fragrant, spicy dressing!

Instructions

  1. Make salad dressing

    • Place all the dressing ingredients in a blender and mix till smooth. 
    • Taste and adjust the consistency to your liking. 
    • Put aside for later.


  2. Cook the steak

    • Add some sesame oil on a hot skillet and place the steak forafew minutes on each side till it gets nice grilling marks,which adds to the taste. 
    • Slice and put aside.
    • In a mixing bowl, add the carrots, cucumber, papaya and ½ cup dressing. Mix well.


Plate and Serve!

Place on a serving plate and top it off with sliced beef, crushed peanuts, coriander leaves and sliced red chili peppers. Serve with extra lemon wedges on the side.
