    1 burger bun 

  • 1 crispy chicken patty 

  • 1 tbsp warm coconut milk

    2 cups cooked glutinous rice 

  • 1 tbsp warm coconut milk 

  • 2 tbsp oil for frying, ½ tbsp oil for coating hands 

  • 1 tsp toasted peanuts (crushed coarsely)

  • 1 crispy chicken patty 

  • 2 tsp butter

McDonald’s Inspired Nasi Lemak Burger 2 Ways

Craving for the Golden Arches’ Nasi Lemak Burger? With this easy McDonald’s Inspired Nasi Lemak Burger recipe, you can whip it up in no time! The key to getting it right is in a few parts. You’ll fry a chicken patty into a crisp golden brown, finish off with a smatter of warm coconut milk, and this is important–adab or dollop of sambal with ikan bilis (depending on your spice tolerance). Want healthier? Switch out burger buns for rice buns instead, shaping glutinous rice with a dab of oil in your hands.

Instructions

  1. Nasi Lemak Burger

    • In a pan over medium heat, add 1 tbsp oil.
    • Fry egg till desired doneness. Remove and set aside.
    • Using the same frying pan, add remaining oil.
    • Fry chicken patty till golden brown and crispy. Remove and set aside.
    • In a small bowl, add warm coconut milk and a pinch of salt. Stir well.
    • Split buns into halves, spread 1 tsp butter on each side.
    • Add 1½ tsp sambal on the base of the bun.
    • Next, add crispy chicken patty and drizzle warm coconut milk onto chicken patty.
    • Top with egg, fried shallots, cucumber slices.
    • Add 1½ tsp of pre –made sambal before placing the top potion of the bun.

  2. Nasi Lemak Rice Burger - Fry Rice Patties

    • Coat hands with oil.
    • Using your hands, take about 1 cup of cooked glutinous rice and roll tightly to form a ball.
    • Press the rice balls to form a pattyabout 2-inches thick and 4-inches wide.
    • Heat up pan over medium heat. Add cooking oil.
    • Carefully add rice patties, and fry each side till slightly crispy.

  3. Assemble rice burger

    • In a small bowl, add warm coconut milk and a pinch of salt. Stir well.
    • Place one rice patty on a plate and spread 1½ tsp pre-cooked sambal paste.
    • Add crispy chicken patty and drizzle warm coconut milk onto chicken patty
    • Add fried egg, fried shallots, cucumber slices and the remaining sambal paste.
    • Top with the rice patty and sprinkle with crushed peanuts.
