    3 slices Smoked Beef (cut according to taste)

    20 g Parmesan Cheese

    150 g Mozzarella Cheese

    2 liter Water

    1 tbsp Cooking Oil

    1 tbsp Salt

    Parsley

    Bechamel ingredients:

    50 g Unsalted Butter

    50 g Onions, roughly chopped

    40 g Wheat Flour

    450 ml Fresh Milk

    3 g Nutmeg Powder

    10 g Chicken / Beef Powder

    5 g Salt

    10 g Sugar

The ultimate comfort food for cheese lovers, Macaroni Panggang or baked macaroni is a simple yet wholesome dish. Also known as makaroni schotel in Indonesia, this lunchtime treat was first introduced by the Dutch during colonial times. The secret lies in the creamy bechamel sauce, where a dash of nutmeg powder is added for a warm nutty aroma that elevates the flavor in between the bites of cheese.

Instructions

  1. Boiling Macaroni

    • In a saucepan, fill it with 2 liters of water over high heat and bring it to a boil. Add 1 tsp of salt and 1 tbsp of oil. Boil the macaroni for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally so that they don’t stick together.
    • Once cooked, remove and add 1 tbsp of oil and stir it well.


  2. Béchamel and Macaroni Cooking

    • In a pan over medium heat, add butter. Stir till it melts and add the onions. Saute until fragrant and add in the flour bit by bit while stirring. Add in milk in small amounts until well combined. Reduce the heat of the stove.
    • Add parmesan, chicken/beef powder, salt, sugar and nutmeg. Stir until well combined and slightly thickened. Add the smoked beef and boiled macaroni. Mix well.

  3. Baking Macaroni

    • Preheat oven to 170 degrees.
    • In a heat resistant bowl, add in the macaroni and a generous layer of mozzarella cheese on top.
    • Put in the oven to bake for about 15-20 minutes, until golden brown.
