Dendeng Batotok

{{totalReview}}
Crispy, thinly sliced dried beef gloriously covered in spicy sambal, what’s not to love about Dendeng Batokok? This Minang specialty is an Indonesian dish that always makes its way to a Padang lunch spread. As ‘batokok’ means ‘to hit’ in Minangese, make sure to smash the beef hard after cooking it to get the perfect crunch in every bite. For a spicy kick, don’t be shy with your chilis

Instructions

  1. Beef Making

    • Thinly slice the beef or as thick as +/- 2cm. Set aside.
    • Blend all the ingredients until it gets smooth then saute until it is well cooked, then add adequate water then add the beef slice and cook it until the water runs out and the meat is well cooked.
    • After the meat is cooked, smash it using a meat hummer but keep it shaped.
    • Prepare a pan and preheat the oil then fry the meat until half-dry or brown. Lift it and set aside.

  2. Sambal Making

    • Sautee all sambal ingredients except the lime leaves using a little oil until it’s half-cooked then lift it and set aside.
    • Coarsely mash all the ingredients or you may use choppers as well then set aside.
    • Prepare a pan and pour a little oil inside and preheat. Add mashed sambal ingredients followed with seasoning then cook it until well. Add the beef, stir it well and if it’s almost done lift it and set aside.
