Ubi Goreng Krispi has been a long-time favorite snack in Indonesia. And even with creative variations in the market, the die-hard fans still stick to the classic version where sweet potatoes are fried until it’s golden and crispy on the outside but delectable and soft on the inside. A humbling and comforting snack which compliments a local brewed coffee or tea beautifully.

Directions

  1. Steam the Sweet Potatoes

    • Steam sweet potatoes for 10 minutes then remove and set aside.

    This recipe can be done without first steaming the sweet potatoes however it will take a slightly longer time to cook.

    For sweet potatoes you can use orange sweet potatoes or purple sweet potatoes, or you can replace them with pumpkins.



  2. Prepare the batter

    • In a medium sized bowl, add flour, sugar and water. Mix till there are no lumps.

    • Place the wheat flour and breadcrumbs in two separate bowls.

    • Coat the sweet potatoes in wheat flour then wet flour mix and finally coat with breadcrumbs. Repeat for all the sweet potato slices.

  3. Fry the Sweet Potato

    • Heat the cooking oil over medium then fry the sweet potatoes until golden brown. Remove and set aside.

Plate and Serve!

  • Prepare a serving plate, then arrange the Ubi Goreng Krispi on a serving plate and serve.
