Sobyah is a cold drink that is usually made during the fasting month. Cardamom and cinnamon added to the beverage impart a distinct and wonderful aroma, calming and soothing after a long day of fasting. Sobyah can be easily made at home. During the month of Ramadan, food vendors in Hijaz sell the drink for consumption during the breaking of fast.

Directions

  1. Preparing the Ingredients

    • Dice the bread into 1cm squares.

    • Put the bread, oatmeal, sugar, and water into a container. Stir to mix well and to dissolve the sugar.

    Oatmeal can be replaced by other cereals.

  2. Let it soak

    • Place the container in the refrigerator overnight or at least 8 hours.

    • Remove from the refrigerator, strain and discard the solids. Add the cinnamon powder and cardamom powder into the strained liquid and stir until well blended. Let stand for 30 minutes, and strain again.

    Make sure it is strained well.

    Let it soak


Serve!

  • Fill a glass with ice cubes, pour the drink into the glass, and serve.
