Kaasstengels (Cheese Stick Cookies)

Kaasstengels are Dutch influenced Indonesian cheese stick cookies that are very popular in Indonesia especially during celebrations like Hari Raya, Chinese New Year and Christmas. It is traditionally made with Edam cheese but feel free to use any other kind of dry cheese to make these addictive cookies.

Directions

  1. Preheat The Oven

    • Preheat the oven to a temperature of 170°C.



  2. Mix The Ingredients

    • Mix the butter and egg yolks until well combined. 

    • Add the Edam cheese. Stir it until it is well mixed. 

    • Then add the flour and stir to combine.



  3. Make The Shapes

    • Take a teaspoonful of dough and roll it into a ball. Then, shape the dough into a rectangle or any other shape you like. 

    • Finally, brush each cookie with egg yolk and sprinkle with cheddar cheese. Bake for 20 minutes.

    • Let the cookies cool and then keep them in an airtight container
