Es Nangka Selasih is an Indonesian thirst quencher, made from jackfruit and basil seeds combined with syrup, ice and lime which gives a sour sensation that compliments the freshness of this beverage. It’s super simple to make and will cool you down rapidly on those sweltering hot days or after a fiery curry. Don’t have basil seeds? Soak and use chia seeds instead for a nice little bite in your drink.

Directions

  1. Cut the jackfruit

    • Cut the jackfruit into 1cm squares and set aside.
    • In a bowl, add basil seeds and water, let it sit until the basil seeds expand.

    Choose a jackfruit that is ripe enough to make it sweeter and more tender.

  2. Add jackfruit, basil seeds, simple syrup and lime juice

    • In a serving glass, add jackfruit, basil seeds, simple syrup and lime juice

    Lime could be changed with lemon

Combine and serve!

  • Top it up with water, stir well, and serve.
