  • 15 beef meatballs, quartered

  • 60 g onions, sliced 1 cm lengthwise

  • 30 g garlic, roughly chopped

  • 30 g shallots, thinly sliced

  • 1 red tomato, cut into 6

  • 19 g oyster sauce

  • 10 g chicken powder

  • 8 g sugar

  • 4 g white pepper powder

  • 17 g cornstarch, dissolved in 50 ml of water

  • 4 g sesame oil

  • 19 g sesame oil

  • 19 g tomato sauce

  • 200 ml water

Cap Cay, or Cap Cai, is a typical Chinese-Indonesian dish made of a medley of stir-fried vegetables. While this recipe mainly features white cabbage, carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, chicory and bok choy, a variety of other vegetables can be used as well, so feel free to add in your favorites. What makes this Cap Cay unique is the addition of bakso, a type of Indonesian meatball known for its savory flavors and chewy texture. Delicious and nutritious at the same time, this dish is the perfect for a quick weeknight dinner.

Directions

  1. Cut the vegetables

    • Cut vegetables to desired size and set aside.


  2. Cook the vegetables

    • Parboil cabbage, carrots, broccoli, cauliflower and set aside.

    • In a pan over medium heat, sauté shallots and onions until fragrant and lightly brown.

    • Add water, oyster sauce, chicken powder, sugar, white pepper and tomato sauce. Bring it to a boil.

    • Add meatballs and stir well.

    • Add all vegetables in and give it a good stir.

    • Continue to simmer for another 15 minutes.

    Cook the vegetables


  3. Add cornstarch slurry

    • Add cornstarch slurry and stir well.

    • Drizzle sesame oil over, stir and remove.



Garnish and serve!

  • Garnish with fried onions and serve.
