  • 150 g sweet corn kernels or 1 medium to large corn cob (steamed)

  • 15 g butter (optional)

  • 5 g chili powder or 1 green chili (finely-chopped)

  • 15 ml lemon juice or lime juice

  • 3 g chaat masala (tangy Indian spice mix) or amchur (dry mango) powder

  • 5 g chopped coriander leaves or spring onion greens

  • 15 g finely-diced red bell pepper

  • black salt or regular salt to taste

Chatpata Corn (Masala Corn)

Chatpata corn is a favorite with kids, and many adults love them too! Over the past few years, Chatpata corn has become a popular street food snack, as it is a steamed dish and is considered healthier than most Indian snacks. This snack can be best enjoyed at a hot or warm temperature!

Instructions

  1. Preparing the corn

    • Boil 150 g corn kernels or 1 large corn cob for about 5 to 6 min.
    • When the corn cob is still hot or warm, slice off the corn kernels from the cob.
    • If the corn cob is too hot, wait till it becomes warm. Be careful while slicing the corn kernels. You will need around 150 g corn kernels.

  2. Making Chatpata corn

    • Put the warm corn kernels in a mixing bowl.
    • Add butter. The heat or warmth of the corn kernels will begin to melt the butter. Instead of butter, you can also use olive oil.
    • Mix the melted butter very well with the corn kernels. Alternatively, you can melt the butter and add to the corn.
    • Add the chili powder, lemon juice, Chaat Masala, diced red bell pepper, coriander leaves and black salt or regular salt as required.
    • Mix very well.
    • Check the taste and add more chili powder, lemon juice, Chaat Masala according to your preference.

Plate and Serve!

Serve immediately while warm, garnished with chopped coriander or spring onion greens.
