  • 30 pcs spring roll wrapper

  • 750 ml vegetable oil for deep frying 

  • 20 g sweet chilli sauce (or banana ketchup)

  • lumpiang filling:

    1 kg ground pork

  • 2 whole eggs

  • 5 cloves garlic (minced)

  • 1 whole white onion (minced)

  • 2 whole carrots (sliced into fine cubes, brunoise)

  • 5 stalks scallions (finely chopped)

  • 100 g cabbage (thinly sliced)

  • 3 tsp salt

  • 1 tsp black pepper

     

  • cornstarch slurry:

    2 tbsp water

  • 2 tbsp cornstarch

Looking for an easy crowd pleaser to make for your Christmas holiday party? Lumpiang Shanghai is one of my all-time favorite Filipino dishes. You can’t go wrong with this crispy deep fried snack which consists of minced meat and vegetables stuffed into bite-sized golden brown spring rolls. Dip it in chili sauce or banana ketchup for the ultimate addictive party snack that tastes super heavenly when served hot!

Instructions

  1. Make the filling

    • In a bowl, combine the ground pork, garlic, onion, scallions, cabbage, carrots, salt, pepper, eggs and mix until well combined.

  2. Assemble and fill the spring rolls

    • Make a cornstarch slurry by mixing 2tbsp water and 2tbsp cornstarch.
    • Fill the spring rolls with the filling and roll them tightly.
    • Seal it with cornstarch slurry.

  3. Deep fry the spring rolls

    • Heat oil in a pan and deep fry the spring rolls until it is cooked and the wrapper is golden brown.
    • Place it on a serving dish

Plate and Serve!

Serve with sweet chilli sauce on the side. You may serve it with banana ketchup too!
