  • 250g Ground Chicken

    500g Green Beans, chopped

    3 Cups Coconut Milk

    1 Yellow Onion, sliced

    5 Cloves Garlic, minced

    ½ Tbsp Belacan (shrimp paste)

    2 Bird’s Eye Chilies, sliced 

    1 Large Red Chili, sliced

    2 Tbsp Vegetable Oil

    Fish Sauce

    Black Pepper

Gising Gising literally translates to ‘wake up, wake up’ and with a delicious combination of cream and spice, this Filipino dish will definitely perk you up with its well-balanced flavors. While it is traditionally made with winged beans, this recipe uses green beans as a substitute as it offers similar taste and texture. The addition of ground chicken makes it the perfect dish to serve with rice for a wholesome meal.

Instructions

  1. Sauté garlic, onion and shrimp paste

    • In a pan on medium-high heat, heat up 2 Tbsp vegetable oil and sauté minced garlic, yellow onion and shrimp paste for 3 minutes until onions appears slightly translucent.


  2. Stir fry chicken

    • Add in ground chicken to the pan and stir-fry for 5 minutes until chicken is cooked.

  3. Add coconut milk and bird’s eye chilies

    • n the same pan, add coconut milk and bird’s eye chilies. Bring to a boil before lowering to medium heat. Simmer for 15 minutes.


  4. Add green beans and season

    • After simmering, toss in the green beans and let it cook for 2 to 3 minutes, until green beans are cooked. Season to taste with fish sauce and black pepper if needed.
     Add green beans and season


Plate and Serve!

Transfer to serving bowl or dish and garnish with large red chili slices. Serve hot.
