Ask any Filipino what their favorite type of pastry might be and they will probably tell you that it is the Ensaymada. These buttery and pillowy bread rolls can be found at almost every neighborhood bakery in the Philippines. Usually, these rolls are slathered with butter before white sugar is sprinkled onto them, making them appealing to Pinoys both young and old. At times, shredded cheese is also added to help balance out the sweetness. The Ensaymada is best served as an afternoon merienda (snack).
