Pisang Geprek is a fried Indonesian snack made with bananas. Unlike Pisang Goreng, half ripe bananas are used instead of fully ripe ones for more bite and texture. Coated and deep fried in batter until golden brown, this crispy treat is usually served with a decadent cream cheese sauce, chocolate meises or sprinkles, grated cheese and a drizzle of sweet condensed milk for the ultimate indulgence!

Instructions

  1. Make batter

    • In a bowl, add flour, sugar, salt and water. Mix well and set aside.
    • In another bowl, add flour, corn flour, salt, vanilla powder and baking soda. Mix well and set aside.


  2. Make cheese sauce

    • In a saucepan, melt butter and add flour. Stir until the flour mixture is dry and does not clump up.
    • Add milk. Bring it to a boil and simmer till it thickens. Add mozzarella and stir till it melts and combine. Set aside.

  3. Fry bananas

    • Split the banana into half.
    • Dip the banana into the wet batter and then the dry batter. Make sure it’s coated well.
    • With hot oil in a pan, fry the banana until it’s golden brown.

Plate and Serve!

Drizzle the bananas with cheese sauce and sprinkle with chocolate rice, grated cheese and sweetened condensed milk.
