  • 150 g unsalted butter, plus extra for greasing

  • 300 g light muscovado sugar

  • 75 g cocoa powder

  • 150 g plain flour

  • 1 tsp bicarbonate of soda

  • 1/4 tsp flaky sea salt (plus extra 1 tsp for garnish)

  • 4 eggs

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  • 150 g milk chocolate chips

  •  Juice and zest of 2 limes Extra zest of 1 lime for garnish (optional)

Lime and Sea Salt Brownies

A fan favourite for brownies, the simple lime and sea salt brownie and so easy to make. The sour lime cuts the sweetness of the brownies, and the occasional crunch of the sea salt makes it a flavour packed dessert you won't wanna skip out on.

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven

    • Preheat the oven to 190C. 
    • Butter a 9" x 13" baking dish, then line with foil. Leave some foil hanging over the edges of the dish so it's easy to lift out the brownies later. Butter the inside of the foil as well.


  2. Mix dry ingredients

    • Whisk the cocoa powder, flour, bicarbonate of soda and 1/4 teaspoon of the flaky sea salt together in a bowl.


  3. Melt butter and mix batter

    • Melt the butter with the zest of 2 limes and sugar in a saucepan, then add the dry ingredients and stir until combined. 
    • Take the pan off the heat
    • Beat the eggs, lime juice and vanilla extract in a bowl or jug, then pour into the saucepan and mix together. 
    • Fold the chocolate chips in, then scoop the batter out into the prepared baking dish. 
    • Even out the top, then sprinkle the 1 teaspoon of flaky sea salt on top.


  4. Bake brownies

    • Bake for 20-25 minutes, but don't overcook the brownies, or they'll be dry instead of fudgy. 
    • Lift the brownies out of the pan andcool completely on a rack.


Garnish and Serve!

Cut into 12 pieces, and top with some extra lime zest if you like.
