A traditional beverage from Jakarta, Bir Pletok is unlike what the name suggests. This wholesome, non-alcoholic Indonesian “beer” is a concoction made of various spices like ginger, lemongrass, cardamom, cloves, cinnamon and secang wood (or sappanwood), which gives it its reddish tint. A drink for an instant health boost, this nighttime fix is quick and easy to serve.

Instructions

  1. Boil drink

    • In a pot, add in 600ml of water, ginger, secang wood, lemongrass, cloves, cardamom, cinnamon, lime leaves, pandan leaves, salt and sugar. Over medium heat, bring it to a boil and serve.
